Celebrate this Merdeka with a good deed! Indepen-dent dog rescue group Paws Mission will hold its monthly adoption drive at IOI Mall on Sunday (Aug 29) to find homes for more than 30 puppies and dogs.
Paws Mission is urgently seeking to rehome the animals to ease congestion at its shelter, which has been inundated in the past month with a number of female dogs and their newborn litters.
Paws Mission coordinator Ho Lai Peng said the group successfully rehomed about 16 pups and dogs during their July adoption drive but the vacancies at the shelter were quickly taken up with the rescue of the female dogs and their pups.
“It’s one out and five in. We have more than 70 dogs and pups at our shelter now. We need to rehome them urgently to make space for other rescue animals. We appeal to the public to do a good deed this Merdeka by giving these lovely pups and dogs a home,” Ho said.
Take us home: Pups for adoption.
Most of the pups up for adoption are below six months old. This include eight beautiful siblings aged two months old, who are the third batch of puppies by a mother dog dumped by its owner in a quiet residential area.
After the pups are rehomed. Paws Mission hopes to capture the mother dog for spaying to prevent future pregnancies.
Ho said two five-month-old sisters Vuki and Suki, who bear some resemblance to German Shepherds, are also looking for homes.
Set up in 2009, Paws Mission comprises volunteers dedicated to protect the welfare of homeless animals through education, health care, adoption and promotion of foster care.
Pick me: Vuki for adoption.
It operates from a makeshift temporary shelter in Old Klang Road.
Apart from becoming overcrowded, the future is also uncertain as the shelter may face eviction threat from the authorities.
On Sunday’s adoption drive, Ho said Paws Mission aims to educate children and cultivate their love for animals.
“There will be a mini exhibition and slide show on the shelter dogs, and children can feed the pups,” she said.
The adoption drive will be held from 11am to 6pm on the linkway on the 1st floor of IOI Mall.
Paws Mission hopes to also raise funds for the shelter and recruit volunteers to help out at the shelter.
Donations in kind especially dry and canned dog food, rice, cages and playpens, dog treats, shampoo, towels and newspapers are welcomed.
