HEAVEN'S DOGGY-DOOR

A poem sent by Vivien to Ah Wong and Dangdut. We will always remember two of you...

My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The Doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.
The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled him in my arms.
Were of his younger, puppy years,
And OH...his many charms.
Today, there was no gentle nudge.
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart thats filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.
But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our canine friends,
HE's installed a 'doggy-door"!

S O S Call !!!!

Uncle Tai   (70+years old) stays in Jinjang, Kepong called to ask for help. He feeds around 100 stray dogs and 200 monkeys!! He request us to help. As you all are aware we have our limitations and we truly hope whoever stays around that area can give him a helping hand.

He can be contacted at 03-62513959

Some Calls we received

Mr X (32years old) thinks we are dogs keeper. He wanted to give us his three 2-3years old dogs. He explained that he has no time to care for them. We asked him to give these three fury friends a chance  and neuter them first before he surrenders them to anybody. He hung up on us…

Mr Y wants to know whether we can spay his cats for him. (What? We are no vets). We could only introduce him to some vets or to Klinik Kembiri.

With the type of calls we received we realised that Malaysian are truly not aware  or are ignorant of what is happening to the unfortunate furry friends that have no homes…. Whatever we are doing may be nothing compared to the number of furry friends suffering out there but, we still need to start somewhere…..

Last But not Least, some Encouraging Sms

PC220077

“My teacher also bought a piece of land in the Himalayans to house all the strays from the nearby forest and mountain… It is said by Buddha the next rebirth for dogs are as human being so precious the form for practicing dharma…” Sue, its good to know we are not alone and that they will be humans in the next life

“Your mission to get animals lovers to provide good homes to the dogs is very noble.Wish you all success. I already have 5 lovely companions at home.”  Thank you for the encouraging sms, we are just trying our very best to give these unfortunate living beings a chance to have a loving home but we do get disappointed sometimes when they are returned to us.

Update on Jimmy White

Admist  all our broken hearts we were glad that Jimmy White is  been taken care off.

Fosterer, Mrs Hong and hopefully his new mummy wants to nurse Jimmy back to good health when she saw him in the vet. Lets keep our fingers crossed

P4270407

Jimi you need to clean  your left paw

 P4270406

Your face must be cleaned too

 P4270408

                     OK you look good now.

Clueless Us

P4040001

With tears rolling

We read our own blog over and over again

We just can’t believe its happening

We realise that this is what will happen to strays who has no homes

We console ourselves

At least we try to give  some  know what its like to be cared

to be loved

What about those we can’t see?

They must be suffering silently all alone

With no one besides them

In loneliness and coldest they will suffer

Have you ever seen an aging stray walking around?

We believe they leave young

Sigh,sigh…why is this so???

Hugs & Kisses

Auntie Kiew smsed us yesterday telling us Ah Wong went to the puppy shelter crying for help in the morning. The Indian guy from fish pond saw her vomiting . When Auntie Kiew reached there late afternoon, Ah Wong was lying in the drain motionless.

We sent both of them to the vet but we are still TOO late. They did not pull through the illness.

As you dream and rest...

Dear Dangdut, Sleep tight, sweet dreams,
Don’t let the bedbugs bite…

I tiptoed into the isolation room,
Not wanting to wake both of them up,
I wanted to sneak a peek and see how they are recovering.
They were lying on their sides like how they usually nap under the car.

I’m gonna get them this time.
Finally I’ve got my chance to pat them. I can finally hug them.
But it felt different this time.
I have always thought dogs have very short breath,
their chests always moving too fast even during their sleep.

This time it was different.
They were sleeping so soundly, dreaming about angels,
resting beside God.

I know it's hard to say goodbye,
But in my thoughts and heart you'll stay
Until again we meet.

R.I.P. Ah Wong & Dangdut ♥

Dangdut feeling helpless looking at her mum suferring

Dear All,

This is the saddest part of our mission. Our resident dogs are the victims. Why? Because they are still weary of humans and if we can ever get the chance to touch them, its not a good sign. It means they are in pain and wants to know what its like to be hugged before they leave. Very heartbreaking. We never get the chance to vacinate them and that is why the unvaccinated dogs are the first to suffer.

Get Well Soon, Corby!

The day Ellen brought Corby home….

DSC01661 DSC01662 DSC01663

Corby (a.k.a. Scrabby) enjoyed Ellen hold her like a small baby…

We received an email from Ellen on Sunday,

Dear all,

Hi! Corby is having high fever and we have sent her to vet today's afternoon. I touched her this morning and her temperature is rather high. We checked her in and vet told us that she has multiple problems. No. 1, she has worm eggs inside her. 2nd, fever with temp of 40+ degree. And 3rd, she has anemia. The vet has yet to find the cause of the fever. It could be due to the worms or fleas.

Sorry that I didn't notice her abnormality early last week. When she loss her appetite, we thought she was being choosy with food.

The vet concluded that she needed dripping, injected her with antibiotic, dewormed and blood transmission. If everything goes smoothly, we will be able to pick her up on Monday evening. Her current weight is 8.15kgs.
Will keep you in the loop when she is discharged. If you guys want to share some advice, all are welcome.

Thank you.

Ellen

We then received updates from Ellen today,

Dear all,

Thank you for the advice and concern. Corby is discharged at the borderline temperature, 39.5. Normal healthy dog temperature is between 38.5 to 39.5. She was very active when we took her home. Keep peeing and pooing. Then ate lots of food.

But soon the energy seem to be gone. After I took my bath, I found some blood drops on the floor. I checked on her but unable to locate where does the blood come from. The blood is watery, not thick.
Anyway, the vet has advised not to let her play actively until her own red blood cells is built. She will get lethargic anytime and could collapse as blood in her body is "borrowed".

Her diet requires full boiled eggs as she needs lots of protein that parasites (worms/ ticks) took from her.
Still need to monitor her progress and will watch out for blood drops in the morning.

Ellen

Bad Bug

Has a bad bug gotten hold of you,
Making you feel queasy?
You’re energy’s low, you’re indisposed,
Being sick’s not easy!

Just take this opportunity
To recuperate and rest,
And then when you return to us
You’ll be your very best!

Marisa is Back by Popular Demand!

Playful Marisa fell down & injured her right front paw badly 2 weeks ago. Thus, she was not able to join us for the adoption drive @ Desa ParkCity. To make up for her absence at the adoption drive, this post is gonna be full of her pics.

Marisa seems to enjoy her tickle torture.

This gorgeous spitz is still actively looking for a loving & caring owner.

She is small and weighs only 9 kilos. Playful dog, loves going for walks and affectionate with people. She is very alert, makes a wonderful companion and a good watchdog. Please give her a loving home.

Out of sight, never ever out of mind

This post is dedicated to Puchong & her 5 puppies….

PuchongWe love you, Puchong. You were such a great mama.

I still remember the first time I saw you at Puchong dog pound, lying down quietly & helplessly. There were so many dogs around you. I was so naive & commented to April, why are you so fat & lazy? Little did I know that you were actually heavily pregnant. The sight of you lying down there helplessly haunted me for that night.

The next day Mrs Lai told me she visited the pound & found that you actually delivered 5 pups, so did Subang. The pound caretaker did not separate you & your pups from others. They splashed water on you & your pups while washing the floor. We felt so bad for you.

When Mrs Lai told us she claimed all 12 of you (Puchong + 5 pups & Subang + 5 pups) out from the pound, we had somehow breathed a sigh of relief.

We are surprised that all 6 of you left us one-by-one. Maybe the God thinks this is the best for all of you, to reunion on the rainbow bridge. You & all your 5 angels are now running freely over the hills and meadows.

The cute 3-legged pup, sorry that we did not rename you. We renamed you Sandi, alright?

Mr. & Mrs Yong reluctantly posed for pix

Thank you for dropping by to visit our furry friends.

When they first visited the shed & saw Subang with her pups, they asked us why we did not spay her. We then explained to them that we actually rescued Subang and her pups from the pound. We are so surprised that aunties uncles of their age actually understand the importance of SPAY-NEUTER rather than seeing SPAY-NEUTER a cruel act.

Why you should spay-neuter your dogs & cats? And even rabbits?

Amend archaic Animal Act 1953 - The Star Saturday April 24, 2010

We read with great interest the article contribute by Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye in The Star on Saturday (page N57) on 24 April 2010. For those of you who misses it, we would like to share it out here.

BEING an animal lover, I have been following closely issues concerning animal welfare, particularly on acts of cruelty to animals.

I applaud the many NGOs and animal welfare activists who have been championing the cause of animal welfare and working hard to draw the Government’s attention to amend the archaic Animal Act 1953 and make it relevant to current needs and challenges.

I fully understand the calls and aspirations by these activists for I myself have several pets in my home which I regard as members of my family.

I wish to associate myself with the numerous calls to the Government to act without further delay and introduce amendments to the Animal Act 1953 (2006 Amendment) to provide for deterrent punishment against those who are involved in acts of animal cruelty and abuses as well as to better enhance animal welfare.

Poor enforcement of an archaic law by the authority concerned is largely responsible for the rise in animal cruelty cases.

Besides seeking urgent amendments to the Act, more can be and should be done to educate the public on animal welfare and pet ownership so that they fully understand their responsibilities and help minimise acts of abuse and cruelty to those animals.

State Governments and local authorities also have an important role to play in animal welfare by providing land to be used as animal sanctuaries where all captured strays will be homed and looked after.

Municipal dog pounds must act to improve the deplorable conditions dogs are kept in. Catching strays must be done humanely and not in a cruel manner.

Animal welfare organisations should continue to pursue animal welfare issues by involving their elected representatives to raise such issues in Parliament.

The authority concerned had several years ago spoken of the need to amend the Animal Act 1953 and other related laws but nothing substantial has been done thus far.

I call on the Veterinary Services Department which is the custodian of animal welfare to brief the minister concerned on the urgent need to monitor animal welfare issues and introduce relevant provisions to minimise acts of animal cruelty and abuse.

The animals that share our planet are a part of us. It is our moral duty to protect them from harm and abuse.

On animal welfare, Mahatma Gandhi once said: “The greatness of a Nation can be seen by the way it treats its animals.”

Updates from Happy

Happy (a.k.a. Sleepy a.k.a. Reiki) sent us an happy email.

As usual, pictures speak louder than words.

When she was Reiki (in Dec 2009)……

Now she is HAPPY (in April 2010)…..

happy baby 1

Happy is so Sai-E-look-alike, just that Sai E is brown/white & Happy is Black-n-White, with all the moo-moo cow spots.

SaiE2 This is Sai E.

Happy baby 2

According to Happy’s daddy (Wong), his fiancée (Michelle) was still able to lift the 3-month-old Happy up above her head. But now Michelle can no longer carry 5-month-old Happy over her head. Hahahaha.

Are you still eating non-stop like a piggie, Happy?

We are all so happy to see Happy bring a bundle of joy to Wong's, family.

Update from Daddy, Mr Wong again,

She's completed her vaccination and she's due for spaying next month. Planning to give heartworm guard next weekend.

She's becoming picky with her food. Partly my fault coz pampering her with organic can food, occasionally la. She's so manja at times, always picking her toy and playing it beside us, where ever we go. She knows how to sit, hand and give high 5, left and right :-)

Glad to hear her mom is in good hands and she's looking very healthy and pretty. Thanks to all your effort. Keep it up!!

Little Mocha & Puchong

Lil Mocha was tested Distemper positive last week. Fan has been fostering him since then.

Hang in there, Lil Mocha!

Magic Wand

I wish I had a magic wand
To make it go away;
I'd wave my scepter over you
Until you were okay.

I'd think good thoughts; I'd send you love;
I'd transmit healing vibes;
My wand and I would surely beat
Whatever the doc prescribes.

But there is no magic scepter, so
I cannot cast a spell;
Just know you're often in my thoughts,
And I hope you'll soon be well!

By Joanna Fuchs (from www.poemsource.com)

We felf so sorry knowing that Puchong (Mocha’s mama) did not make it. She passed away on 22/04/2010. She was very weak since we took away all her pups. Gosh! She must be missing her pups loads. How we wish we could bring her pups to see her before last breath.

PuchongPuchong could not understand why her pup was brought out from the cage. Her 3-legged pup went to the rainbow bridge on 27/03/2010. Read the story here.

Our heart torn into pieces when we saw this picture of Puchong looking puzzled, not knowing what had happened to her precious baby.

Good Bye Dear Puchong! Please send our regards to your other 3 pups at rainbow bridge. May you rest in peace. Love you lots!

Another Trip to the Vet

After visitng Sai E & Fei Mui, off we went to visit Starry, Jimmy White & Sulise who have distemper & are currently hospitalising @ Dr Ben’s clinic.

P1020715P1020727

Depressed Jimmy White just recovered from distemper, now looking for a good home.

He loves human companion.

Yes Jimmy, I know you don’t like to be caged but we have no choice. Let’s work harder to find a loving owner for you.

P1020725P1020723

Oh, even Starry was admitted due to (suspected) distemper as well.

Now you see the importance of vaccinations. Even adult dogs need their annual booster.

P1020714

Sulise who loves to roam around freely whining to get out from her cage as well.

It seems she doesn't twitch / tremble as much today.

I was crying my heart out knowing that she trembled a lot yesterday. I thought she was going to die. Hang in Sulise!

Please please please. All dogs need vaccinations, no matter males/females, bigs/smalls, purebreds /pariah dogs, puppies/adult dogs.

Quoted from Fort Dodge Brochure:

Why You Need to VACCINATE Your Dog?

Responsible pet care requires puppies to be taken to the vet for their initial course of vaccinations, but this CANNOT protect them from the rest of their lives. The immunity weakens over time and your pet can again become susceptible to disease.

Should your pet become infected, treatment can require frequent visits to your vet and possible hospitalisation.

However NOT ALL diseases can be cured and disability or DEATH may result. The only PRACTICAL means of protection is VACCINATION!”
